Baby Boomers and technology go together much like peanut butter and jelly – and a new article form the New York Post reveals that not only are older adults adopting smart home features but doing so faster than other generations.
In a read published just two days ago titled “Baby Boomers Are The Fastest Adopters Of Smart Home Tech: Poll”, a report reveals the answers of 2,000 adults surveyed with smart devices in their homes.
“First” Device Data
• 54% of respondents had their first smart devices gifted to them
• Average cost of first device was $110
• Most popular first devices are cameras and streaming devices
• Other popular 'next' smart devices are speakers, doorbells and lights
Data By Generation
• Baby Boomers are the fastest adopters of smart home tech – with 66% using their devices right away
• Generation Z are the slowest adopters, reporting it takes them 4 days to get acclimated to their devices
• Surprisingly, millennials reported the most initial opposition to owning smart home devices; no reason was given for this generational trend
Among the top 7 ‘needs’ for smart home devices were that individuals desired tech that is easy to install & use, can help keep their home & family safe and is private & secure.
