Senior Spotlight: Shopping, Reading & Travel Planning This Fall

AARP has 3 recent reads to help you embrace the coming change of the seasons!

One of our favorite seasons is almost here – fall! The crisp and cool mornings and evenings are already starting to emerge, and the change in the trees is already starting. While the stores are focused on rolling out autumn and holiday home décor, AARP has recently published 3 articles to prepare us for seasons 'change in other ways!

Below we share a summary and links to fall shopping deals, fall books and fall travel (leaf-peeping is a real thing!). We hope one or more of these reads helps you embrace the transition to a season that reminds us change can be a beautiful thing!

Best Things to Buy in September 2024

Let’s talk… Labor Day sales! Not only does the end of summer mean that summer clothes and décor are on deep discount, but Labor Day sales are abundant. Retail analysts suggest that consumers look for stellar sales on items such as mattresses, large appliances, luggage and smartphones, as 3-day weekends are often the lowest price points for these items.

Fall 2024 Books Preview: 37 of the Season’s Top Reads

Is there any other way to enjoy fall and winter than curled up on the couch with your favorite blanket and a good book? We think not… and travel and books editor for AARP, Christina Lanzito agrees. Look out for the first installment of Cher’s memoir, a nostalgic life recap from Al Pacino, new releases from Dean Koontz and Nicholas Sparks (yes – The Notebook author!) and so, so many more.

5 Fall Foliage Mountain Destinations for Prime Leaf-Peeping

If you are looking for a great excuse for autumn travel – why not go leaf-peeping?! Since a reported 63% of those aged 50 and older plan to travel only domestically, AARP has identified 5 mountainside locations that make for a great trip with even greater views. The best part – one such featured destination is only a few hours away – Lake Tahoe! Also recommended are The Poconos, the Shenandoah Valley, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee (just 20 minutes to the Smoky Mountains) and the self-proclaimed fall color-capital of the US – Stowe, Vermont!
