Monday Market Update: Fall-Inspired Home + Garden Refreshes

Simple, seasonal changes for your home inside & out.

Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer, often marked by barbecues, block parties and department store sales. While this holiday is observed to honor the labor movement and contributions of American workers, it is also seen as the start of the transition from summer to fall.

The autumn season is truly my favorite, in large part due to being the time of year for my favorite holiday (Thanksgiving!) and also because of the warmth, comfort and connection evoked by cozy blankets, hot cocoa and a hearthside gathering or two. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to share some fall ideas inside or out… so I chose both!

Below you will find two hand-picked articles from Real Simple and HGTV – I hope one or both of these reads inspires you to embrace change both as a season and as a season in life.

8 Fall Container Plants to Dress Up Your Front Porch – Real Simple

Given that a healing garden has been a large part of my life and my enjoyment over the last few years, this article featuring 8 container gardening plants that can dress up your front (or back!) porch felt very fitting. Ornamental peppers and cabbage, chrysanthemums (of course!), New England Aster, heuchera (known for its autumnal hues) and even pansies are simple and colorful additions. Even ornamental grasses offer a crisp effect as we breathe in fresh, cool mornings and await changes in the leaves.

Our Favorite Fall Decorating Ideas – HGTV

Nobody does fall décor like HGTV, and this gallery of 85 photo ideas literally has something for everyone. Many of the ideas can carry you from now into thanksgiving – such as mums, pumpkins, gourds and plaid prints. Other ideas such as copper pails, staircase seating, fine china, warm accent walls, spice-hued guest rooms and velvet textures can take you from now into the New Year. Don’t forget that green touches like faux eucalyptus and hand cut, local greenery can also evoke a seasonal refresh that is timeless.

What’s your favorite way to welcome fall? Whether it’s a family tradition, a garden task or a touch or two inside the home – we’d love to hear about it!
