Monday Market Update: Best Backyards In America

Barbeque season means lots of backyard time; guess which states boast the best?!

When you think of summer, are many (or even most!) of your memories made outdoors? Summer season is often the time when our backyards shine the brightest: barbeques on the patio, café lights strung high and low, pool time, kids running through sprinklers or even sipping cool drinks in the shade with friends.

But what makes a backyard a great gathering spot? What features are most desirable in an outdoor oasis? What states have the best backyards… and why? A recent study from the website ‘Backyard Oasis’ answers all of these questions and more. Get in your lounge chair and get ready to read all about what states do summer fun BEST!

Top 3 States w/Best Backyards For Gathering

#1: Florida: A staggering number of residential pools, a great deal of sunlight annually and an average temperature of 70.7 degrees – yes please! Add in the fact that the average cost of a backyard barbeque is $124 and it’s no wonder why the Sunshine State is in first place.

The Extra Mile: If you want to offer the ultimate backyard gathering… get inspired by a $21 million-dollar mansion in Sarasota that features a swim-up pool bar, outdoor living room w/fireplace, spa, open air kitchen and home-length koi pond plus footbridges.

#2: California: Our state features the highest amount of annual sunlight in the country and 1.3 million pools statewide. While the average cost per backyard barbeque is $128 (what doesn’t cost more here?!), the backyards here are hard to beat which is why we are in the #2 spot on the list!

The Extra Mile: Stand out features are exemplified in a Hollywood Hills home, where the backyard space comes in the form of a ‘floating’ backyard with Pacific Ocean views, a white sand volleyball court, multiple living garden walls, four cozy fire pits, Brazilian swings and a 100-foot curved edge infinity pool (adjacent to the 30-person whirlpool spa of course).

#3: Texas: This state known for size of course offers the largest average yard, with an average of 14,876 square feet. With a high annual sunlight level, moderate barbeque cost and warm average temperature – Texas easily slid into the top 5.

The Extra Mile: A Texas mansion with neoclassical flair sits on 3.3 acres of formal outdoor living. This exemplary property showcases meticulously manicured gardens, a two-level pool plus pool house, open kitchen, barbeque area, tennis court, putting gee and sculpture garden.

While these top 3 states with best backyards may not surprise you – are #4 and #5 cause for pause? Arizona and New Mexico are next on the list… to see how these states made the grade and to view pictures of the examples above, be sure to read ‘Which States Have the Best Backyards in America? No matter what size, shape or condition your backyard… you can always add one small detail for big impact! An outdoor chandelier, a pretty patio umbrella, a few new potted plants or even some new all-weather pillows can make your little piece of paradise a little more fun!

Cheers to backyard bliss,
