Designations Create Distinctions: Empower Your Network, 3 Ideas To Try Now

As a former educator, I built my career in the real estate industry based on education and empowerment. Like so many of my like-minded peers and most admired mentors, I believe that the best way to build client relationships is with honesty, integrity and of course… information. Since I cannot control what the market is doing (wouldn’t that be fun!), I focus on what I can control which is access to actual information. Sometimes that means sharing data that isn’t always what people want to hear – but need to know in order to make the very best personal and financial decisions.

If you feel the same, here are 3 topics to educate & empower your clients that any agent can try at any time – like today! The format should be based on YOUR style – you may choose to blog about these ideas, write up an email or newsletter, create a graphic and social media post or just make a few calls and have a few conversations.

Real Estate Education – 3 Topics

#1: Local Data. Clients always want local AND hyperlocal data but may not know where to find it. Consumers often resort to data based on gross and irrelevant nationwide or state generalizations that may or may not apply to their neighborhood, city or county.

#2: 5 Questions. One of our favorite emails and/or blogs to write is less about ‘telling’ and more about ‘asking.’ We challenge our network to think about what they want and how they want to get there by presenting 5 specific questions to ask themselves – the answers just may surprise them! Questions are typically about lifestyle desires, short- and long-term goals, etc.

#3:  Re-Routing Misinformation. Unfortunately, this is a necessary component of education these days as anyone can publish anything. Coupled with fear mongering and scare tactics, consumers often get paralyzed with fear instead of inspired with actual opportunities. You may wish to take a blanket statement and break it down with data (such as ‘Inventory is increasing and the real estate bubble is about to burst’ or ‘Home prices are dropping – it’s too late to sell”) or present a true v. false series of questions. I always keep a list of reputable, data-driven resources available so that I can look at the facts for myself and my network.

Thank you to all of my real estate course attendees and industry peers who continue to strive to empower & educate! Every prospective buyer, seller and investor deserves to have all the data AND a champion who can help them find it.
