Our Senior Spotlight has covered change in the senior housing industry for a decade; when those changes are immense and life altering they are called ‘disruption.’ The continuing care retirement community (CCRC) that won the Best CCRC Lite Design of 2021 is an inspiring example of change for the better – and you just may hope to see more disruption like this in the future!
According to Senior Housing News, “Executives and design partners involved with the development of The Holbrook of Woodstock knew they wanted a concept that could disrupt senior living norms while finding new ways of approaching amenities.”
This is what the result looks, feels and lives like:
-A sprawling 20-acre site in suburban Atlanta that incorporates 300 high-end residences
- No more traditional senior living terminology: independent living residences are known as “active passionate,” assisted living spaces are known as “enriched” and memory care is “inspired living”
- An inviting, open-to-the-public community offering dining, spa and event spaces as well as swim lessons (tell the grandkids!), family events and many intergenerational opportunities for interaction
- Inclusion of two pools, a spa, a salon, communal living rooms, a wine cellar, walking trails, courtyards and a multitude of dining options from grab-n-go to upscale restaurants
- Health & safety upgrades such as UV lighting, negative ion emission and HVAC systems
Steve Levin, a judge among the Senior Housing News Awards team declares that “This is promoting lifestyle. This is where an aging population is going to be in an environment where they can excel with a resort mentality.”
What do you think about a community such as Holbrook of Woodstock? Which of these features would you want to incorporate into your ideal retirement residence? We’d love to hear!
