Senior Spotlight: Aging In California Resources Guide Updated Last Month

Aging isn’t easy; these resources might make it a little easier.

June has arrived so quickly that we wanted to rewind just for a moment and share a helpful resource that launched in our state in May. Last month was declared ‘Older Californians Month’ and in that regard a new toolkit was launched which better organized information and tips to support the most common questions and challenges that older adults in California are facing.

The theme of the resource guide (shared with the theme of 2024 Older Californians Month) is “Start the Conversation: Connecting You with Aging Resources.” The state hopes that this hub of information available in print and online “offers older adults and their loved ones the opportunity to discover valuable resources and services, fostering stronger connections and enhancing their overall well-being.”

Resources include but are not limited to:

| The Friendship Line: A way to combat isolation and anxiety by providing a friendly ear for older adults looking to connect.

| The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program: Respectful oversight for people living in long-term care facilities to make sure they’re treated with dignity and respect.

| Caregiver Resource Centers: Services which provide support and information to help caregivers take the best care of their loved ones.

| California Department of Aging (CDA): A key state association serving older adults, people with disabilities, and family caregivers by funding meal programs, caregiver support, programs to help people live independently, and more.

| Housing Options: An introduction to different housing types available in California to help make an informed decision about what’s right for you or your family.

Other important links enable easy access for senior disaster preparedness & resilience, CalGrows, CalFresh, health insurance counseling, elder abuse and more.

Not every resource is right for every family. But we want to ensure we add as many tools to your toolbox as possible, and we do believe that these updates to California’s aging resources are a noteworthy starting point to living longer and living better – and helping those around you do the same!
